Types of daffodils
The RHS sorts daffodils into 13 groups, or divisions, based mainly on flower form. Use the filters to narrow the list by division, color and height, then open a variety for its full record and where to buy bulbs.

How to choose
Pick a division for flower shape. The Northern California Daffodil Society defines Division 1 by a trumpet as long as or longer than the petals, Division 4 by clustered cups or petals, Division 7 by several flowers on a round stem, and Division 13 as the species and wild forms.
Plant where browsing animals are a problem. UNH Extension says daffodils are usually safe from wildlife without added protection, unlike tulips and crocus, which voles, chipmunks and deer regularly eat. NC State Extension lists daffodils as deer and rabbit resistant.
Compare the zones in each record with your own. NC State Extension gives zones 4a to 8b for daffodils.
Frequently asked questions
How deep and when should daffodil bulbs be planted?
The RHS advises planting in early autumn, ideally September, at a depth of three times the bulb's height. NC State Extension gives 8 inches deep in fall, spaced 2 to 3 inches apart.
When can I cut back daffodil leaves?
The RHS says to wait until the foliage turns yellow, usually about six weeks after flowering ends, because cutting earlier can reduce flowering the next year.
