How to choose
Decide what the plants are for. Tall, fully double series are grown for cutting; low, compact ones for edging and containers.
Pick the flower form: single, semi-double, dahlia-flowered, cactus-flowered or pompon.
Check days to bloom if your summer is short.
Frequently asked questions
When should I sow zinnias?
Johnny's Selected Seeds advises sowing about 4 weeks before planting out, or sowing directly in the garden once it is warm. The seed germinates in 3 to 5 days at 80 to 85 °F.
